Back Boys Become Men: Book Three ~ Mountain Ranch

Last Updated: March 10, 2023
Carl and Billy Paige were orphans, living in a Group Home, when the bombs began to fall. They had never known their parents and all they ever knew of home life was a parade of dismal foster homes. They were both sixteen and were identical twins, blonde, blue eyed and stood right at six feet tall. Both boys had boyfriends they were not allowed to see by their strict foster parents, but they managed to see them at school. On that fateful morning, they were standing around, waiting for their first period class. Each couple was talking about the news reports from the previous night and the report there would be a Tucson Citywide air raid drill at 10:00 am that morning. The First Period Warning Bell had just rung when they were rocked by a tremendous explosion and the Rotunda Dome at the entrance to Highland High School collapsed into a cloud of dust and a pile of rubble. Jimmie Bates, Carl's boyfriend hollered, "Let's get the hell outta here, that was a bomb down in Tucson, look at the mushroom cloud!" Jimmie had a brand new F-350 he had bought with the money he had earned over several summers up on his Grandfather's Ranch near Flagstaff. He had learned that being a Cowboy was hard work, but it paid well and he owned the truck with a clear title! Jimmie drove everyone around to their homes to collect anything they wanted to keep before they all headed for the High Country. He was afraid to try going through Phoenix, so he headed the long way, up through Globe and around through Payson to reach the Mogollon Rim. From there, they could get to Flagstaff and his Grandfather's ranch on the north side of the San Francisco Mountains. The San Francisco Mountains were old volcanoes and the land was incredibly fertile, it supported his Grandfather's herd of two thousand beef cattle and fifty horses.
